Surveillance, the key word behind the opening to the film based on true-life FBI Agent Joseph D. Pistone, aka Donnie Brasco, and his infiltration of the New York City Bonanno crime family in the 1970s.

what we did

Director Mike Newell wanted the audience to feel the patience and obsession in Brasco's surveillance. Using the production shots taken by the unit still photographer, a series was reconstructed out of 1000s of film photos, negatives, and contact sheets. The photos were combined with shot footage from Downtown LA dive bars to create the pace and setting. What results is a portrait of a patient predator and his prey, and the connection that would form between them.
